A Georgia couple, who are parents of three, was sentenced for a total of 28 years for terrorizing a black child’s birthday party. They and a dozen others were riding around in trucks with guns and confederate flags, yelling racial slurs and threatening to kill them back in July 2015 - a few weeks after the Charleston church shooting. Joel Torres (given 13 years) and Kayla Norton (given 6 years) were a part of a group called “Respect The Flag” who were found out to be white supremacists who wanted to go to KKK rallies and join Skinheads Nation.
At that time, Joel Torres pointed a shotgun at the black party-goers with his friend saying, “the little ones can get it to”. However, he later stated he had a shotgun because he feared for his friend’s safety against the black family. Once they are done with their sentencing, the couple will be banned from Douglas County.
